My Happy Place Layout.

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is well & crafting heaps! :)

Do you ever wonder if you didn't have this awesome hobby in your life, what would you be doing with your time?
This is what I came up with: .... NOTHING! ...lol
I would be a crazy lady I think. Craft helps me express myself in a Healthy way.

Things I LOVE about Crafting:

 Scrapbooking,
 Project Life,
 Card making,
 Mixed Media,
 Crafting with my daughter,
 Annoying my Hubby about crafting,
Hiding YUMMY new goodies from my Hubby,
Telling him something only cost $2 ... on sale .. wink wink!

Seriously, My Art is very important part of my life. If I am having a bad day, week I know I can hide away in my craft room, My Happy Place!
A huge part of my Happy Place are my Husband Mark and my two awesome kids, Keenan (16) and Jorja (9). No matter where I am in my life I can turn to my hubby & kids and feel completely HAPPY!
My layout this week, I really wanted to scrap a photo of all of us together. We don't have a family photo, bad hay! So I decided to scrap a very recent photo of Jorja.
Seeing her smile is my Happy Place.

Playing around

Hi everyone
Tammy here, firstly I want to say thankyou for being so welcoming!  It's certainly a lovely little community here at Deer and Fawn Designs.

I am so excited to be a designer. I can't wait to get into it and play with my DT goodies.
I am trying so hard to wait patiently. Everytime someone knocks on the door, I almost jump out of my skin, I tell you its a race to the door - I tackle the kids to get there first, hoping its my box.  I know it will be here soon enough, but I've had  to distract myself from my impatience, so I've been playing!  Yay!
I thought I'd play with the goodies I received with my $30 voucher from Deer and Fawn Designs for the March Challenge.  Here's what I created:

I loved all the bits and pieces I got.  I especially love the colour of that Dylusions Spray - Polished Jade.  Gorgeous!
I started with some Kraft Paper, and painted gesso in a couple of areas, and around the edges. I then spritzed some large blobs of Dylusions (I sprayed it closely to the page to get a solid blob).  I then tore some pieces of washi and added in pieces over the gesso.  I also added some plasterers mesh tape at this point. To soften these strips I rub a little gesso with my fingers on top. This helps to blend the page together.
I then used a stencil and some texture paste in a couple of areas, to add some texture.
Finally I stamped very imperfectly and quickly around the edges and on top with the Finnabair Messy Stamp (LOVE LOVE LOVE).
After this I add a few small strips of paper.  For this I often use Project Life Cards - I find them the perfect size, and I seem to have a huge amount of stress cutting into a full sheet of 12x12 paper! Those little 3x4 cards and 4x6 cards are magic! I'm not afraid to chop into them at all, and it really has changed my approach to scrapping.
I then began adding some embellishment clusters to the side of my photo. I love those Feather Die Cuts.  I decided to make my own feather too with washi tape.  All I did was fold it in half and cut little slits into it.  I then cut it into a sort of feather shape.
Can you see the gorgeous silver heart doily in there? Debbie had packaged my order so nicely, she had wrapped it in brown paper using washi and then this heart doily was around the packaging.  I really couldn't waste it, or the washi tape (yep I've used that too - Can you tell I don't like to waste anything?)
I then added on my title - these Kaiser words look great! I know I'll be using them lots.  Finally I added some wood veneer hearts.

I really loved creating this page about my gorgeous daughter.
I hope it inspires you to have a play.
I think the delivery man may get a bit of a shock at my excitement when my box of goodies does arrive!
I'll be back to share again soon.

Tammy

Thrilled to be here....my first post

Hi everyone!
Well what an honour this is - to be selected as a Deer and Fawn Designer. WOW!!
I am still doing a little happy dance here, and can't wait to play with all things Deery and Fawny and share my work with you.
So I thought I'd start by having a go at April's challenge - Mixed Media

I started with just a white sheet of cardstock, I added stencilling, paint, texture paste and stamps.  I had a whole lot of fun, even spraying the cardstock with lots of water!  Let me tell you at one stage I thought I'd ruined it - I added a big blob of teal paint and well it just kinda sat there - it didn't want to drip when I added water and I NEARLY gave up and threw it out, but I decided to keep going. I kept adding washi tape, more stamping and paint over the blobs, plus I added some plasterers tape to give more texture.  I then added black paint to then end of an old roll of  loo paper - I love the effect of these circles! . I made sure I stamped some slightly off the page too, to give the layout flow. I will definitely be doing this again. (In fact I'm now looking at random things around the house and thinking of all the cool stamp prints they would make).  And then guess what?  All of a sudden I loved it. It came together.

Here's my creation

Please excuse my dodgy photo in this layout - it was taken at night with an iphone 4, but I really wanted to tell the story.....I decided to scrap the imperfectness of my life.

Here's some close ups....

So my advice would be DON'T GIVE UP. And don't overthink it - have some fun - experiment - PLAY.  I love that about mixed media - you never quite know how its going to turn out.  And mistakes, well they can be covered up!  So go for it!
I can't wait to see what you come up with.

If you missed it here's the details of the challenge:

Use Sprays, stencils, at least one paint colour and a household item as a stamp!
It can be on a layout, canvas, pocket page card or any other medium that you would like to use...

ALL entries must be uploaded to the blog by the 30 April... and this month YOU all vote for you fave entry.... there will be a link in the side bar for you to cast your vote... Voting will open on the 16th April.....

WELCOME TAMMY :)

Hi everyone

I am thrilled to be adding Tammy Klingner as a Deer Designer.... please make her welcome

Here is a little about Tammy :)

I live in the beautiful Clare in South Australia.  I've been scrapping since 2002.  For 8 years, and until 12 months ago, I had my own scrapbooking business, Go Scrap Yourself in Clare.  I worked full time running the business and teaching classes.  It was such a passion for me. My customers were so special to me, and of course having the opportunity to play with new product was pretty awesome.  I am also a single mum to 2 children (aged 11 and 13) who I absolutely adore.  As they are getting older, and our needs are changing I decided to sell the business.  I now work 3 days a week in a manufacturing jewellers in Clare.  Unfortunately my scrapbook shop has recently closed, leaving quite a void in the community here.
I have always been a traditional scrapper and last year I was excited to discover Project Life. I love how it captures the everyday stories - the real life - I'm thrilled to say I completed a whole year! A double page spread for each week (plus a few extras for a holiday).  I am continuing that this year and am only 2 weeks behind at the moment.  I have recently been working on some mixed media projects (a personal journal), and I love incorporating this into my traditional layouts.
Check out Tammy's blog here http://tammyklingner.blogspot.com.au/
and here is some of her AMAZING work :)

Make sure you come back to see what inspiration Tammy has for you all :)

Just Playing .....

Ages ago .... well only about 2 months! I sketched this bird out, inspired by the wonderful            Dina Wakley - and her Scribbly Birds Stamp set.

You see, I desperately wanted that stamp set and I didn't own it YET. So I decided to have a go at sketching it myself. I was pretty happy with my version. ( note: YES! I now own this awesome stamp set, ordered from the wonderful Deer & Fawn Designs! )

Fast forward 2 or so months, and "MY" copy bird was still just a sketch in my Art Journal. Inspiration hit and I finished off my page!

Hope you like........

Just a quick pop in today!

I will be back a little later in the week with part 2 of my Basic Background Tutorial & also some Scrapbooking!

See you
