The Race To Finish

Hi Everyone!

With Christmas celebrations happening in just a few days and only just over a week till the New Year, I feel like the pressure is really on to complete my 2014 album, especially now when I am on holidays and all my PL gear is at least 4500kms away from where I am standing.

I had only decided in August this year that I was going to jump on the project life band wagon, I'm so glad I did because my pictures would have remained on my hard drive for many years to come, and the joy I get from my boys looking through the album is absolutely priceless, but I am so very much behind!

In order to relieve some pressure on myself, I had to remind myself of the facts
* I only started in AUGUST!
* I have at least printed some of my photos
* I'm doing Monthly, not weekly - no one will notice if I skip a few days
* I don't actually have the time to worry about craft right now because I'm too busy making awesome memories with my family!

So in my race to finish, I give you this weeks spread and a very short post!
I cut down a 6x6 paper pad to use as my base pages (Becky Higgins Playful) which was full of bright fun girly colours, and being the weekend that my boy was at his Dad's house, I felt it was a perfect opportunity to add some more pinks to my album (He doesn't care anyway, Pink is his favourite colour!).

Have a great week!

Making Florals Manly

 Hey Everyone!

I hope you are having a FABULOUS Saturday! It's so beautiful and sunny in South West WA today so I have been catching some rays, in a hope to tan up my white pasty winter legs!

Today I am sharing my latest Project Life spread. This year I have been doing my pages monthly-ish rather than the popular weekly spread as some days you'd have to tackle me to get the camera out of my hands but other days, especially when I don't have Ryan to follow around, my camera is neglected. Today's spread I am sharing is one of those days where I took heaps and couldn't choose a favourite.

My partner & I took Ryan to the viewing area at the airport a few weeks ago to watch the planes before my partner hopped on one himself. We had such a great morning watching all the planes take off, pointing and screaming with excitement! Ryan was a little bit sad he wasn't allowed to actually go in the plane, but I have promised him he will be in one very soon to see his Nanny & Poppy over East.

For this spread, I used Kaisercraft Seabreeze 6x4 Captured Moments cards as my base.
I LOVED the colours of the cards, the dark blue was a bit darker than I would normally go but I am really happy with the end result considering some of the cards were quite flowery which, having boys, I tend to struggle with from time to time - why can't they just like flowers too?!
(I'm pulling in the pinks for next week!)

I didn't have any 3x4 cards at all that coordinated with the Seabreeze range so I just cut up a couple 6x4 cards in half and rounding the corners with my trusty EK Success corner rounder punch.

As this spread was only for one day, I had a few gaps to fill in with filler cards. I found the blue from the Amy Tangerine Stitched Die Cuts were a perfect match with Seabreeze so I've sprinkled a few die cuts from that pack about, along with a few hearts from the Playful chipboard sticker pack, some washi and mambi stickers

Links to the products I've used are below, don't forget to pop back next week where I share a no so boy-ish spread!
Have a great week!

A Golden Christmas Continued..

 Hi Everyone,

After a great response from my first post (Thank you!) I have been asked to go a little further in depth with how I created my cards from the "A Golden Christmas" album which you can find HERE!
These are all super simple cards to make at any size, using all the things you may already have lying around in your area.

I selected 4 of my favourites which are shown below - I must apologise for my incredibly poor camera skills, I'm using the excuse of they were taken on my phone and I am somewhat of a night owl when it comes to crafting and my partner is yet to fix the lights in my room.

The first card 'Man I Love You' was creating using Dylusions Calyso Teal ink, a few sequins, aqua brush, glossy accents, Simon Says Stamp Ink in Black and one of my flavour of the month stamp set, 'RAD' by Kellie Stamps.

I simply put a droplet of ink on my acrylic block and dipped my aqua bush in to dilute the colour a little, and brushed lines across the page - Easy as, right?!
Once dry, I drew my black border with a journaling pen, then grabbed the 'Man I love you stamp' - this is the tricky bit. I only inked the word MAN and stamped, then inked up the I LOVE YOU part and stamped underneath so it would all fit in. Attach a few sequins with glossy accents and you're done!

Man I love you card supplies

Next Up, The love card - using only the Dylusions ink, aqua brush and journal pen.
The easiest card EVER! I hate my own handwriting but this made the album a little more personal - I dipped the aqua brush into the ink and scripted away! (Don't get me wrong, several attempts were binned!), once dry, add the border!

Love card supplies
My third card, 'The good life' was used with the same technique as the Man I love you card but instead of using ink, I found some gold paint in my stash. This is the same technique as I used on my Christmas card swap that you can see in my introduction post HERE (However I used a normal paint brush there)
Once dry and the border was added, I used a die cut from the Amy Tangerine Stitched collection and adhered with Glossy Accents.

The Good Life card supplies

Lastly, my fourth card 'You Rock' - This one got a little technical, I wasn't sure at all if this was going to work or not but it turned out better than I expected!
I applied the gold paint directly onto my stamp (Avery Elle Texture Tiles - Be Cool) and stamped onto my cardstock. Once dry, added borders and another of the stamps from the RAD set.

You Rock card Supplies

I hope I have inspired you to get your craft on and have a go, these cards really are a great way to build your stash using supplies you may find you already have hiding in your craft space or even just to create that perfect filler card you can't seem to buy!

Happy Crafting!

Christmas is nearly HERE!

I don't know about you guys, but I love Christmas!

Jorja's Elf , Candy has settled well into our home! ... Jorja just loves waking up every morning to see what mischief Candy has been in. And she has been a lot of cheeky stuff!

I am really getting back into my 12 x 12 scrapbooking, and not doing so well on my Project life album .. naughty. I am really enjoying looking through all my old files and finding little photo gems of my kids!
Bring back so many memories, I guess this is why we do what we do, no matter what format you use, we are all preserving our memories good, bad, funny and even sad!

When I opened my DT kit from Debbie is month, I swear my heart stopped! Full of the most pretty scrapbooking and Project life goodies EVER! ..... yumminess :)

Project Life cards are just so perfect for building layers on a 12 x 12 or a 8 x 11 page. No cutting needed. Just your imagination. In my kit this month I received some wash tape, and who doesn't love wash! I decided to use the wash for something a little different, and made 3 cute little feathers to use as embellishments, I am so happy with how the look. I use use the washi to make my own banner ... Too Cute!

Loving the gold!

A Golden Christmas!

Happy Saturday Everyone!
Thanks for joining me on my very first post for the Deer and Fawn design team!

I am really excited about Christmas this year, We are flying over east to spend Christmas with my family in a couple weeks; It will be my first Christmas since moving to WA back in 2006 and both my partners and my son's first Christmas with them ever. Excitement plus!

I wanted to make my mum something REALLY special since she misses out on so much being on the other side of the country and all, but I know she wouldn't do much with a regular scrapbook, it would just sit with all the other creations my sister and I have made for her and become a congregation for dust bunnies. Not on!

Then I saw these awesome little We R Memory Keepers 4x4 albums in the Deer and Fawn online shop (I chose the gold) and just knew it would be perfect! I could add a small amount of pretty, stuff it silly with photos AND it's small enough to fit in her handbag so now she can do her usual thing a little different instead of thrusting her phone, with my Facebook profile up, in the faces of her co-workers, constantly repeating "That's my grandson!".

I also picked up a few extra page protector packs while I was there just to make sure I'd have ample and then off I went choosing my favourite 200 photos from 2014.

I had a lot of fun making my card for the Christmas swap this month, so I decided to do a similar style and make this album a little more handmade, use up my stash and save a few dollars before Christmas. I whipped up all these 2x2 inch cards in a suprisingly short period of time - some I really hate, some I really love!

I did add two 4x4 inch sleeves at the front and back to work as a cover page, I really like the way these came out.

And finally, just one page of the completed album! I didn't have any cards to spare at the end of this project, I used one card per page so you can imagine how many pages there are (I counted 25 - give or take some) so I will spare you the whole album this time!

Till next time, enjoy your week!

Time For The Star

Hi there!!

Wow, I seriously cannot believe it is December already!! As is tradition in our home our tree went up on the 1st after hubby was home - it's a whole family thing!!

I LOVE Christmas!! Everything about it but most especially the magic!! My first real insight into the magic of Christmas year came as we were unpacking all the boxes to put up the tree in the form of my littlest little guy. His precious face was all smiles and he giggled and oh'd an ah'd ALOT!!

The icing on the cake however was his most precious little face upon being lifted up by Daddy to put the star on top of the tree. Each year previous to this (since we had kids) this has been my biggest little guys job but last year he cried. He clung onto his Daddy for dear life!! I was a bit sad by that but rolled with it, as you do with kids!! I thought this year, it will be Hunter's turn! So up he went! Jacob and I watched and Jacob said to me "Yeah Mummy, good idea for Hunter to go up and put on the star!" Winning by each child, now that doesn't happen often!!

I had received in my box of goodies a pack of the Elle's Studio Good Cheer journalling cards and Elle's Studio Good Cheer Bits & Pieces which is where my page inspiration started out. I pulled out some papers in teal and red to go with the cards and bits & pieces I had picked out along with some vintage photo distress ink and also gold colour shine and gold thickers and set to work :)

I'm really happy with how this page turned out and had fun playing - especially with all those little bits and pieces from the kit!!

After all the paper, the photo's, the title and the journalling was stuck to the page it needed more. So I grabbed out my sewing machine and gold thread and stitched a plain border all around the edge, then grabbed these gorgeous Studio Calico gold camera's and spread 3 across the page. Then I pulled out my Pink Sparklets and some bluey/teal rhinestones and sprinkled those across the page on the diagonal.

Here is a close up the title

The bits and pieces I have layered around the photo/journalling

And the little banner from the top of the page

That middle stripey layer is actually a 3x4 card that I chopped down - I loved that it had all the colours in it but it was way too big to use the whole card up there - or anywhere else on the page really!! But it does mean I have more of it left over for another project!! Yay!!

Thank you so much for stopping by, I can't wait to see what the other girls are creating with their boxes of goodies so make sure you are checking out all their creations as well!!

Until next week,
Mel

Christmas Time!

Happy 1st of December everyone!

I love the first day of Christmas! .. Getting the tree out and all the decorations.
Do you put your tree up on the first? We do! The house looks so colourful, puts a big smile on my face.
This year we have introduced the Elf on the Shelf. Today Jorja came home from school to find a parcel for the North Pole, she was so excited.
We both sat down and watch the Elf on the Shelf movie, and Jorja quickly named her Elf Candy Cane .... Candy for short!
Its been a great start this evening having Candy in the house, not ONE fight for Jorja to eat her veggies, or even have a shower without a disagreement ... So FANTASTIC!
I might have to keep Candy around all year!

Anyway ... today I have a layout to share using my goodies from the November DT pack! I really loved using all the goodies that Debbie sent me.
This layout is a little more tame to what I normally do, but still has the Mixed Media feel to it.
I really wanted to start scrapping "Christmas", but I don't have any 2014 Chrissy photos yet! ... With both the kids at school, my poor Pug, Blossom and no choice but to model for me!
I much say I was very impressed on how good she was!

As usual I Gesso'd my background paper first, as I knew I would be using the Faber Castell - Gelatos for my background. Added my Kaiser Craft and Amy Tan stamps for texture.
Then using a Kaiser Craft stencil and Modelling  Paste to create even more texture. After the Modelling Paste had dried, I rub a Close To My Heart ink pad in Olive to tone the while down a little and add some depth.
Then the paper fun started! I just LOVE cutting apart the 3x4 cards to use on a layout, they are heaps of fun.
So here goes, my first Christmas layout for 2014 ......

Thank you for popping by and checking out my layout!

I hope you have also been enjoying checking out Melinda and Emma's awesome creations! ... Loving them so much! :)

Have a great week! .. See you next Monday!

Here is a little about Emma....
http://www.immisspolley.WordPress.com
"I'm a mother,  partner, cat lover and full time procrastinator.
I spend my days harrassing my son, who just turned 3, with my camera to the point he automatically says 'Cheese' every time he sees a phone. My partner still requires some degree of nagging.
I craft almost every single day, and by crafting , I mean I move papers around for a few hours.
I have been scrapbooking and cardmaking since 2007 but after loosing my mojo for a bit, I discovered Project Life and haven't looked back."
This is what Emma created with her first Deer Designer Box.....
And these are the cards she designer for our December Card Swap.....

Please make her feel very welcome
